Hi everyone, I am excited to share with you how to frame your canvas posters. If you have been to my posters listings lately, you may have noticed that I offer canvas posters. I often get 2 questions about these listings, “what are canvas posters?” and “how do you frame them?” Today, let me answer these questions for you.
Canvas posters are similar to paper poster, but they are more durable and can be cleaned easily with a damp cloth. The high print quality and rich color make these the perfect gift. I typically frame these in an open frame without glass. My rule of thumb for framing: if it is framed with a mat, then I use glass, if it is framed without a mat I frame it without the glass.
What you will need:
- Canvas Poster
- Open Frame
- Self Adhesive Foam Board (Cut to the size of your poster)
- Exacto Knife
- Thick Masking Tape
- Books – to help keep the poster from shifting
Step 1: Line the poster up on the foam board, and place books, on one half of the poster. On the other half, lift the poster up and drape it over the books on the other side. We will be adhering the poster one half at a time.
Step 2: Next, we use an Exacto knife to lightly score the adhesive backing right down the middle, then peel half of the adhesive backing off to reveal the sticky adhesive. Tear only the revealed half of the adhesive backing off, and smooth the poster over that half of the poster. (starting from the middle and working your way out.
Step 3: Remove the books, then lift up the second half of the poster to remove the remaining adhesive backing. Smooth paper over the adhesive backing just like in step one to mount the whole poster onto the foam board.
Step 4: Now that your canvas poster is mounted onto your foam board, we place the mounted poster inside the open frame. If the frame has brackets, then fold the brackets over the back of the foam board. If your frame does not have brackets to hold the artwork in, just grab some masking tape to tape the artwork inside the frame.
And that’s it, time to step back and view your masterpiece.
